Heaven's Oculus is an abstract project designed through the grasshopper and rhino software systems.
Heaven's Oculus is a retreat from reality, an intimate space designed for lovers of astronomy on the top of Mount Olympus. Due to the location's high altitude, scholars and philosophers of the past used to believe it was the location closest to the heavens.
The beehive-shaped cocoon utilizes its ridged texture to add dimension to the exterior as a front stair feature to the isolated retreat. The hut includes an oculus located at the center of the ceiling that allows the inhabitants of the space to look up and out at the sky. The interior also includes rooms and hallways that are cut out of the thick walls, which follow the shape of the Ursa Major constellation. There is also a textured wall to replicate the pattern of the stars when light passes through the wall during the daytime.
